In the new children’s fiction “Henrietta and Henry” (published by Trafford Publishing) by author Margaret M. Peiffer, a family of Canadian geese share the story of their species with young readers.

This year, “Henrietta and Henry” was selected for inclusion in the Trafford Gold Seal program, which recognizes excellence in writing and overall potential.

“Henrietta and Henry” tells the tale of two Canadian geese. Henrietta is a real-life Mother Goose figure and narrates the story. Henry is her mate for life.

Through Henrietta’s storytelling, young readers will learn about the life cycle of geese, including their nesting, mating and flight habits. Peiffer says she hopes this story will educate young people about the importance of nature.

“We must make room in our environment for wildlife,” Peiffer says. “We can learn some lessons from wildlife and we must respect the habits of wildlife as well.”

About the Author
Margaret M. Peiffer worked for the federal government for 33 years in personnel management and retired in 1997. She started a second career that year as a volunteer reading specialist at Queen of Apostles Catholic School. She realized reading was the foundation to success in life. Because Canadian geese lived near her apartment complex, she found it easy and exciting to watch their habits. The geese inspired her to write “Henrietta and Henry” for young readers.
