Author Margaret Williams Asprey comes from a family of chemists, scientists and engineers. It came as little surprise to her and her family then, when she became a nuclear engineer. She details her experiences as a woman in the science field in her autobiography, “A True Nuclear Family” (published by Trafford Publishing).”
In “A True Nuclear Family,” Asprey describes the many projects she worked on, such as the Manhattan Project, as well as the unique challenges she was presented with as a woman in her field. She provides historical information as well, which provides a framework for her and her family’s stories.
Asprey hopes that readers will not only be entertained by her story and learn from it, but also realize the importance of family.
An excerpt from “A True Nuclear Family”:
"One of the wives who came along asked me how I happened to get into such an unusual field for a woman. I said that ‘in our family, something like this just seemed normal since two of my sisters are chemists, one has a degree in physics, one was a statistician with math and physics degrees and two of us are engineers.’ She then asked if there was something about our family that led so many of us to enter such unusual fields for women and I had to say that I really didn’t know. Ever since then, I have been trying to figure it out.”
“A True Nuclear Family” has been selected for inclusion in the Gold Seal program, which recognizes excellence in writing and overall potential.
