A group of flying enthusiasts form a tight-knit community and experience intrigue, romance and mystery in “The Aerie: Air Strip on Weeks Mountain” (published by Trafford Publishing), the new novel by award-winning author Marjorie Irish Randell.

The Aerie” tells the story of 12 couples who all come to live in an air park called the Aerie located on the flat top of a mountain in the foothills of California's High Sierras. Randell, who lived with her husband in an air park for 23 years, clarifies the term for readers: “It is an area immediately adjacent to a runway with streets six to eight lanes wide that are the taxiways as well as the mode of entry for the residents living in the area surrounding the runway,” she explains.

Pat Halston and his wife, Leslie, are the story's main characters. The couple purchase the land on which the Aerie is built. They build the runway and a repair hangar for Pat to work on old World War II planes, and gradually, 11 other couples join them to live in the Aerie.

Personality differences cause friction between some of the Aerie's residents. What starts out as a simple paradise for pilots becomes increasingly complicated. Pat and Leslie's idyllic air park is fraught with tension over romance, disagreements over minor affairs and even murder in this entertaining tale.
