Marketing on 6th, NYC, Inc Conduct Focus Group to Study Leadership Characteristics

A focus group took place at Marketing on 6th, Inc’s New York City based office on Wednesday, November 27th, 2013. The firm plans to use the data collected to help with recruitment practices in early 2014.

Ten anonymous candidates were interviewed by Marketing on 6th, Inc at a 2.5 hour focus group which was dedicated to uncovering leadership characteristics. The firm’s focus group research involved an organized discussion with a select group of individuals to gain information about their views on leadership traits and experiences with managers in the workplace. The company confirm all interviewee’s were all New York natives, aged between 25-35 years of age and either worked in a leadership, management or directorship role for a minimum of 12 months.

Marketing on 6th, Inc decided to launch this introductory study following an article published in Forbes on November 18 2013 by Cheryl Conner. The article, titled 'Mentally Strong People: The 13 Things They Avoid' discusses mental strength which was based on a list compiled by Amy Morin, a psychotherapist and licensed clinical social. ‘We find this type of insight interesting. The list focused on what successful leaders ‘don’t do’. A refreshing angle as I think a guideline of what ‘not to do’ often resonates with individuals more than a list of things we should be doing,’ says Colm Horgan of Marketing on 6th, Inc.

Marketing on 6th, Inc understand the role of the focus group moderator is very significant. Good levels of group leadership and interpersonal skill were demonstrated by the firms Sales Director who moderated the group successfully. ‘A lot of information was collected throughout the afternoon and we will spend the next few weeks categorizing the information and deciding how we will use the data collected’ added Colm Horgan.

The focus group conducted by Marketing on 6th, Inc was driven by a desire to gain insight into skills and characteristics the firm should be looking for in high-level Management. With plans to grow significantly in 2014, the New York-based sales and marketing agency confirm that leadership capabilities will play an important role in their ability to grow at the speed their clientele require. The preliminary research conducted by hosting this focus group will be used specifically for recruiting the right type of candidates in 2014.
