Misfortune to Millionaire” is set in the “good old days” of the 1950s, back when men lived by the old adage of “an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay,” when a man could prosper by the sweat of his brow. In his novel, author Marton Murphy tells the story of the daring businessman Mattie McFinsky, and how hard work, business savvy, and perseverance allowed him to create a small enterprise that succeeded and made him a millionaire.

Early on in his life, Mattie’s parents made sure to teach him the value of money. Mattie, on his part, strived to learn everything he could from his mother and father, and became an avid reader of books. He also came to value the importance of family ties, and the need to forge friendships within the community. These would be of great use to him after he left his small island town in search of greener pastures elsewhere in Canada, as he took up a series of small jobs and eventually built up the seed money he needed to start his own business. By being personable and polite, he managed to form contacts and valuable friendships, and with his keen mind he was quickly able to see opportunities and capitalize on them. Through his business in trading livestock, farm goods and equipment, and thanks to a thriving oil industry, his investments gradually paid off and led to the success and expansion of his enterprise. Years later, Mattie enjoys a life of leisure, travelling the world with his wife, while secure in the financial stability, success and the profitability of his enterprises.

“Misfortune to Millionaire” not only tells the tale of Mattie McFinsky, it also contains a wide variety of useful advice from the perspective of a millionaire who earned his buck the hard way. From tax tips to real estate advice and guides to healthy living, readers will get it all from this timeless rag to riches story.
