Jamal Mashburn, former NBA player turned prolific business man, announced that he’s launching his own advertising, entertainment and communications agency with Chicago-based agency veteran, Jonathan Sackett. The agency, which is headquartered in Chicago, is named MASHBURNSACKETT (http://www.mashburnsackett.com), and also has an office in Miami Fl.
"Jamal and I have created much more than another advertising agency. I’ve lived within the big agency model – and it’s broken. We’re able to create and execute unique platforms and opportunities for clients that the big agencies could never implement,” said Sackett, President/CEO. “It’s just not the standard integrated agency.”

Sackett stated, “This new endeavor is very exciting for us because we have a team that truly understands how modern business is being fundamentally transformed and collectively we have the experience and knowledge to create value and drive real results.” With 15 employees to date, the agency is currently agency of record for Drink Tank Ventures a beverage incubator in Malibu, CA including their 4 brands, a tech company and a major publisher.
Mashburn and Sackett met through mutual friends in New York when Mashburn was looking to speak to a marketing communications veteran who could help him understand the industry a bit more as he was looking to build his existing businesses. After a game of late night basketball and a long dinner, both men knew they’d be friends and business partners.
Sackett has more than 18 years of industry experience and is well known for his experience transforming agency systems for some of the biggest agencies in the world including DraftFCB, Arnold Worldwide, The Martin AgencyDDB Worldwide and Ogilvy & Mather. He is also co-founder and Chairman of the International Association of Internet Professionals and serves on the Board of Directors for WebWise Kids, a non-profit organization specializing in family education and educational outreach for safe Internet usage.
With a natural knack for team building, Mashburn took his skills from the basketball court straight to the business world without missing a beat. Mashburn successfully assembled a team of savvy professionals specializing in administration, finance, project management, insurance, and advertising. This rock-star team quickly developed an ownership model that resulted in an impressive business portfolio. To date, Mashburn — the entrepreneur — has ownership interest in numerous restaurant franchises (38 Outback Steakhouse restaurants, 40 Papa John’s pizza restaurants, and three Dunkin' Donuts stores), car dealerships (owner of Kentucky’s Toyota on Nicholasville and Lexus Store of Lexington), real estate, and the thoroughbred horse racing industry.
