Medelis Partners with the McGuire Institute to Continue Raising the Standards of Clinical Dentistry Research
Nashville, Tennessee (PRWEB) March 01, 2016 -- Medelis, Inc., a specialty CRO, today announced a partnership with The McGuire Institute to continue to advance the practice of dentistry through clinically-relevant practice-based research.
Founded by Dr. Michael K. McGuire and Dr. E. Todd Scheyer, The McGuire Institute is a non-profit organization focused on delivering highly relevant clinical research that supports clients’ goals and advances the profession through the adoption of new or improved technologies in practice.
Medelis is supporting the research by applying its expertise from designing and managing complex oncology clinical trials to this rapidly developing field.
“The landscape in dental research is changing,” said Dr. McGuire. “Because of the greater scrutiny from sponsors and regulatory agencies, we needed a CRO who could help us pioneer this new set of standards for dental studies. We sought out Medelis because of their expertise in complex oncology research.”
Medelis, in partnership with The McGuire Institute, allows study sponsors to initiate single or multi-centered studies quickly and reliably, with calibration and internal communications coordinated by the Institute and study management handled by the clinical research professionals at Medelis.
“We’ve previously completed a number of successful dental studies with McGuire Institute members,” said Bill Taaffe, President of Medelis. “We look forward to continuing to share the rigorous processes and training from our oncology SOPs to create the new standard for dental clinical research.”
Medelis and The McGuire Institute have recently completed a successful phase II, 10-site and 40-patient posterior buccal dehiscence extraction study and a phase III, 8-site and 40-patient randomized device study.
“There’s a tremendous value to sponsors from obtaining study results from the ‘real world’ practice of dentistry,” said David Fox, Vice President of Client Services at Medelis. “The challenge is to train and enable the dental practices to be able to properly conduct this research. We’re excited to continue developing these standards with The McGuire Institute and their members.”
The market is growing for dental implants, treatments for periodontal disease, periodontal regeneration, biologics and biomaterials that support esthetic soft tissue regeneration. The global dental implant market alone is estimated to grow from $7.4 billion in 2015 to $10 billion in 2020, a compounded annual growth rate of 7.2%
Dental sponsors can take advantage of the Medelis and The McGuire Institute partnership to conduct studies using faster site start-up with a diverse set of patients treated by trained staff who implement health-enhancing technology into direct patient care.
