Mediator & Attorney Barbara Ann Allen Named SBA’s Texas District “Person of the Year”
Round Rock, TX (PRWEB) May 31, 2016 -- Mediator and attorney Barbara Ann Allen, the owner of Mediators of Texas, has been named “Person of the Year” by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Texas District. Mediators of Texas has offices across the state, and is a HUB, EDWOSB, SDB and TMTR-certified firm.
“For more than 50 years, the SBA has recognized the outstanding achievements of America’s small businesses for their contributions in their local communities, and to our nation’s economy,” reads a statement on the SBA’s website. “Every day, they’re working to grow small businesses, create 21st century jobs, drive innovation, and increase America’s global competitiveness. And in recognizing the changing face of America, the SBA’s National Small Business Week awards honor individuals and businesses that reflect our nation’s rich diversity.”
Mrs. Allen, who was presented with the award at a special luncheon on May 6 by the SBA’s San Antonio District Director Anthony Ruiz, founded Mediators of Texas in 2013 with a vision to help parties settle their differences collaboratively, creatively and through compromise -- which not only helps them cut costs, reduce stress and increase the speed of resolution, but also alleviates the burden on an extremely over-tasked and under-resourced court system.
“I am honored to receive this award from the SBA, and thank Mr. Ruiz and his team for championing small businesses, which are the engine of both our local and national economies,” commented Mrs. Allen.
Prior to launching her successful and certified woman-owned business -- which in recent years has expanded into larger offices, increased its staffing roster, and boasts a newsletter with over 16,000 subscribers -- Mrs. Allen taught law at Yale Law School and Pepperdine Law School, and was a pioneer in helping the legal community understand how mediation could compliment rather than compete with litigation, and give lawyers more tools and options to serve their clients’ best interests.
In addition, since 1995 Mrs. Allen has been at the helm of an acclaimed rescue ranch that provides a safe haven for dogs and horses, as well as trains, manages and donates service dogs to wounded and medically discharged (PTSD) Veterans.
Added Mrs. Allen: “While we strive for the betterment of our community here at home through conflict prevention and mediation, our brave soldiers put their lives at risk to keep our country, communities and families safe. We can never thank them enough for their dedication and sacrifice.”
