Medical Doctor Examines Nuance of Prayer, Power of Faith Through Touching Collection of Stories
YUBA CITY, Calif. (PRWEB) May 20, 2019 -- Author and longtime physician R. Keith McAfee, Jr, MD, has published an inspiring collection of 45 true stories, each of which intertwine poignant or painful moments from Dr. McAfee’s medical career with powerful lessons he has learned about prayer.
A thoughtful, nondenominational examination of our devotional relationship with God, “Breathe: A Physician’s Stories and Reflections on Prayer” empowers readers to improve their prayer lives by helping them achieve more authentic personal devotion. Utilizing his experiences and insights garnered from over 31 years “in the trenches” as a clinical physician, Dr. McAfee reveals how prayer is to our spiritual lives what breathing is to our physical lives, and he reminds his readers that indifference is the leading cause of spiritual stagnation.
“To put it bluntly, my intention is to affect your guts and your heart more than your head, and my greatest goal in writing this book is that your prayers – however short or long – will become deeper, richer, and more filled with God’s presence,” Dr. McAfee wrote. “Prayer is a mystery. It works not because we understand the process but because we know the God behind the process.”
Ultimately, Dr. McAfee’s touching anthology of vignettes – some humorous, some heartwarming, and others heart wrenching – penetrate readers’ hearts and souls, move them to deeper, more authentic devotion and touch on many of the important, timely, practical and relevant topics of family, community and faith that affect their lives on a daily basis
“Get ready for some exploratory surgery of the soul … but, when you are done, Dr. McAfee will have shown you the difference between a prayer life that is in dull black and white versus one that is in vivid high definition living color.” – Baron D. Harper, MD
“His engaging book is an essential for all who seek a deeper prayer life and a pathway to how personal experience can be a catalyst for conversation with God.” – Deacon Gregory Burch
