The inaugural meeting, presented by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and The Obesity Society (TOS), will bring scientists, clinicians, surgeons, physicians, integrated health professionals, and policymakers from around the world to Atlanta from Nov. 11-16. The Medi-Weightloss® presentation is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14.
“Screening for Diabetes and Diabetes Risk in a Physician-Supervised Weight Loss Program” is among 10 winners in the Clinical Section Poster Competition. It reveals how researchers found significant improvements in patients’ HgA1c levels after weight loss. Other Clinical Outcomes findings include:
• Research on patient dyads and weight loss substantiates previous studies that found that accountability and social support results in greater weight loss. Cohabitating patients who joined the program lost more weight (24%) and stayed in the program longer (26%) than patients that joined the program alone.
• Clinical Outcomes research indicates adherence and frequency of visits positively affect weight loss. Patients who maintained regular visits lost a greater percentage of their body weight (15.4% vs. 9.6%) and stayed in the program longer than patients who had more sporadic visits.
• Clinical Outcomes findings reveal a positive association between fat loss and length of stay in the Medi-Weightloss® Program.
