We believe that teamwork improves innovation, enhances problem-solving, and boosts productivity. Ian Vasquez, COO of MeMD.

While many states in the U.S. continue their struggle to recover from the 2008 great recession, Arizona has emerged as a forerunner of economic revival. Employment in greater Phoenix is projected to grow 85% over the next two decades compared to a national growth average of 20%. While the real estate industry has historically driven Arizona’s economy, healthcare and tech-industry companies are playing an increasing role in the state’s financial future. MeMD.me, a Scottsdale-based provider of cutting-edge online medical care, is one of the top healthcare start-ups leading the state forward.

Founded in 2010 with the mission of delivering quality, affordable healthcare, MeMD owes much of its success to its collaborative culture. With a talented team of medical professionals working out of a modest executive office, MeMD has revolutionized how people think about healthcare. MeMD currently serves residents and business groups in over twenty states nationwide, with plans to roll out service to the remaining states in the coming year. As the company has grown, so too has its number of employees. MeMD’s staff has doubled over the past three months and is on track to triple again within twelve months ; one of the newest hires is a former LifeLock manager who will be heading up MeMD’s digital marketing department. MeMD’s personnel now includes medical providers from around the country, case managers, customer service specialists, computer engineers, marketing strategists, and sales representatives. The company also runs a college internship program for students with interests in web healthcare. MeMD’s rapid growth reinforces the company’s role as a leader in Arizona small business, a sector of the state economy that employs 78 percent of the resident workforce and accounts for 92 percent of job growth.

Even though MeMD is a young company, it has already posted an impressive track record. MeMD employs hundreds of medical providers who have collectively treated thousands of patients. MeMD’s client list includes Maricopa Integrated Health System, Lewis and Roca LLP and Goodmans Interior Structures. CNBC, CBS News, and the Phoenix Business Journal have all featured MeMD as an up-and-coming Arizona business.

An innovative culture and environment have made these successes possible. To encourage teamwork, MeMD recently added a new wing during an office remodel. Coworkers now gather around tables and white boards to collaborate on projects. When a particularly challenging problem arises, they can brainstorm solutions during a round of golf on the in-office putting green. The close-knit community celebrates its successes with company barbecues and themed office parties, such as Halloween bashes and ugly sweater socials. “Having a collaborative culture and an environment conducive to creativity is an essential element for us to achieve our goal of revolutionizing healthcare delivery. We believe that teamwork improves innovation, enhances problem-solving, and boosts productivity,” said Ian Vasquez, COO of MeMD.

In addition to rolling out health services nationwide, MeMD is in the middle of a website redesign. The new website, scheduled to launch in September, will feature health guides and medical treatment videos in addition to MeMD’s telemedicine platform. Mobile users will engage with a site that is responsive and mobile-optimized. “We are giving the website a major facelift. The new site will offer a better user experience and greater stability to manage our increasing web traffic,” adds Mr. Vasquez.
