The new safety manager will visit all service locations to establish a consistent training program to ensure greater safety for Merit associates from coast to coast.

“Merit not only recruits, trains and promotes highly productive associates, but people who are conscientious and safety focused. Our priority is to provide clients with both the most efficient service teams in the industry and the safest working environments as well.” says Cesar Scolari, Merit CEO.

Merit Logistics, a national third-party services provider, has hired Belinda G. Ochoa as it’s new Risk and Safety Manager. Mrs. Ochoa has over 25 years of warehouse safety and workers’ comp experience and has been brought on board to develop, establish and maintain a consistent safety program at Merit service locations nationwide.

Working as a consultant for Merit over the past year, Ochoa made major strides in elevating safety awareness and training. As a result, the company’s reportable OSHA injuries dropped by a remarkable 33% in 2018 and those numbers are trending even further in a positive direction so far in 2019. Now, as a full time Risk and Safety Manager, Ochoa is primed to take Merit’s training program to the next level of success.

As an independently owned and operated company, Merit has demonstrated the operational excellence, flexibility and responsiveness that today’s leading retailers require in order to achieve peak performance in their distribution and supply chain. The company prides itself on its culture of continual improvement and its focus on safety is no different. In addition to the robust new safety program Ochoa is implementing, Merit also incorporates daily pre-shift training meetings and continual peer to peer observation programs to ensure all associates as well as client employees are performing in a safe and healthy workplace.

“At Merit, we not only recruit, train and promote highly productive associates, but people who are conscientious and safety focused,” says Cesar Scolari, Merit CEO. “Our priority is to provide clients with not only the most efficient service teams in the industry, but the safest working environments as well.

“As part of our improved safety initiative, we recognize the individual needs specific to our clients and will continue to develop training to ensure safety compliance at every location we service,” says Ochoa. “From Good Manufacturing Practices to Hazardous Waste to Conveyer & Bailer training, we are committed to customizing our safety training to the unique requirements of every location we operate at.”

The new Training and Safety Manager will also be conducting regular on-site ergonomic evaluations and assessments at all distribution centers to continue to refine workplace safety for all Merit associates.
