Jamie Guirola, a reporter for WTVJ-TV/Miami, recently received a “The Voice” singing makeover from SAE Institute of Technology faculty members Dave Poler and David Andris, and Career Services Specialist Mark Samuels at the school's Miami campus. The staff used SAE’s professional studios, recording equipment, and audio processing software to improve Guirola’s studio performance of the Bruno Mars hit “Locked Out of Heaven.”

“Jamie's timing was very good, especially for his first time in a professional recording studio,” says Samuels. “He was definitely a fast learner and he put great energy into each of his performances.”

Guirola sang into a Neumann U-87 microphone, and his vocals were tracked through SAE’s Toft ATB 32 console and recorded into the Pro Tools software program. His performance was then edited and corrected using the Auto-Tune and Melodyne software programs.

Samuels wasn’t surprised by the impressive singing makeover that Poler and Andris were able to deliver for Guirola.

“Dave Poler has 20 years of experience as an audio engineer in some of South Florida's most prominent recording studios,” says Samuels. “He’s recorded and mixed for such artists as Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Timbaland, Santana, Busta Rhymes, and Diddy.

“David Andris is the Audio Technology Program Chair, as well as a graduate of SAE’s New York campus. He’s recognized throughout the recording industry for his knowledge of Melodyne, where he was a product specialist for the company. The fact that both David and Dave have experience as working studio engineers allows our students to gain valuable insights from them about what it will be like when they enter the job market. This practical guidance gives SAE graduates essential career-ready skills."
