New Book by Mayor Michael J. Heitzler Takes In-Depth Look at History of Goose Creek

Heitzler, Ed.D. explores the fundamental characteristics and epochal transitions of Saint James, Goose Creek Parish, a historically important neighborhood in American history.
Comprehensive and carefully documented, “The Goose Creek Bridge” divulges the social and political significance of a small section of South Carolina through the ages by introducing local personalities such as the Goose Creek Men who were seen as the tip of the spear for the British empire in North America and who impacted prevailing policies during a major turning point in colonial history.

About the Author
Michael James Heitzler earned a doctorate in education from the University of South Carolina. He is a Fulbright Scholar and a retired school administrator of the Berkeley School District in South Carolina. He has served as mayor of the City of Goose Creek since 1978. He is the author of “Historic Goose Creek, South Carolina, 1670-1980,” published in 1983 by Southern Historical Press, Easley, S.C., and “Goose Creek, a Definitive History: Volume I,” published in 2005 and volume II published in 2006, by the History Press, Charleston, S.C. The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce published his work, “George Chicken, Carolina Man of the Ages in 2011,” and the City of Goose Creek and the South Carolina Historical Society published many of his articles.
