Veterans’ Benefit Hosted By Goodman Acker Personal Injury Law Firm Proves To Be Success
Southfield, MI (PRWEB) November 20, 2014 -- On Veterans Day, November 11, 2014, the Michigan personal injury law firm of Goodman Acker P.C. partnered with Detroit Tough Gym to host a benefit walk/run and collection drive to help reduce the problem of veterans’ homelessness in the City of Detroit and surrounding metro areas.
The “Caring For Our Homeless Veterans Benefit” took place from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Detroit Tough Gym located in Corktown Detroit.
Goodman Acker is proud to announce that the event was a huge success, collecting over eight truck loads of clothing, coats, blankets, shoes, business suits, disposable goods and more for its homeless veterans in addition to monetary funds donated towards the cause. All donations went to the Michigan Veterans Foundation.
“I as well as my entire team at Goodman Acker would like to extend a huge thank you to those who donated or volunteered their time at the ‘Caring For Our Homeless Veterans Benefit,’” says Senior Partner and Attorney at Goodman Acker P.C., Jerry Acker.
“We were truly humbled by the incredible turnout at the benefit, and the amount of donations our community donated on the day of the event and prior to the event at our Southfield office. Thanks to the community and the staff at Goodman Acker, we were able to donate tons of clothing, boots, toiletries, blankets and more to the Michigan Veterans Foundation. Our heroes should never be forgotten, and this event was a true display of national caring and respect.”
Homelessness among veterans in the City of Detroit is a serious issue. Over the course of the past year, there were 1,681 single homeless adults in the community who were veterans and 102 veterans who were in families, according to the Homeless Action Network of Detroit in its 2013 State of Homelessness Annual Report for the Detroit Continuum of Care.
Thirty-seven percent of the single homeless veteran adults reported being homeless for the first time in 2013, and 64 percent of veterans in families reported being homeless for the first time in 2013.
The “Caring For Our Homeless Veterans” event received mass media coverage, including local coverage from WDIV Local 4 News, WXYZ Channel 7 News, Fox 2 News, CBS Detroit, WJR and WWJ radio stations. All local coverage from the event can be found by visiting the Goodman Acker Video Library.
“Goodman Acker has always been and will continue to be very well involved in the community. Just like our dedication that our personal injury lawyers, paralegals and staff have to helping personal injury victims obtain the justice they deserve after an accident, we are equally as dedicated to helping the community,” Acker said.
