MilitaryRecord.org to Educate People About Service Scams in New Initiative
Houston, TX (PRWEB) December 20, 2013 -- MilitaryRecord.org is launching a major initiative to educate people about how to avoid military service scams, the company said yesterday.
“With more and more people coming back from military service, it's unfortunate that some of them are going to be scam artists,” a MilitaryRecord.org spokesman said. “The majority are true heroes. But some are not, and we believe education is the best way to help people avoid becoming scam victims.”
There are any number of ways that former service people or those claiming to be former service people can run a scam, he said.
“In order to take advantage, someone might claim on an online dating site to be a military hero even if he was kicked out on a dishonorable discharge,” he said. “Or, in order to get a foot in a door, they might claim to have been awarded medals they never earned when applying for a job. We want to make sure that people who are trying to do the right thing by our military heroes don't get caught up in this type of scam.”
The MilitaryRecord.org guide will explain how the different types of military service scams work and what to do in order to make sure people can avoid becoming a scam victim, he said.
“If you understand how people might scam you and why people might scam you, it is much easier to protect yourself,” he said. “What we are going to do is explain each and every military scam we learn about and then publish them for our customers. We think this will protect people.”
