Milton Pashcow carefully weaves a passionate and dramatic tale of love in time of war in SICILIAN ESCAPADE. This book unravels the author’s fervent relationship with his soul mate and future war bride filled with Sicilian love and true affection, and a determination to survive together forever.

World War II was upon them. Survival on both sides was paramount, sometimes disregarding simple humaneness. They were strongly influenced by how the civilians faced the many shortages and upheavals of their former lives. To the contrary, ensuring a fountain of plenty for the soldiers’ existence was the military PX "minishopping center." They and others must confess to abusing the privileges afforded by the generous handout it made available. Cigarettes, chocolate, chewing gum, coffee, sugar, and other basic elements (no alcohol) provided cash for them. None of these basic necessities were available to civilians. As a result, intensive small-scale black marketeering was inevitable. Survival demanded it.

Heroics in war are necessary but a sad delusion considering human toll. The relative safety and liberties enjoyed behind the battle lines had hardly brought many pens to paper. It demonstrates the fact that man’s desire to find humor in the most miserable surroundings persists even after they pinch themselves back to a somber reality. These human feelings are always worth continuous repeating.

Looking back through the experience, Pashcow cannot help but miss some of life’s guilty pleasures —what they missed most, good food, some fun, liquor, and female companionship. They were the basic human drives, but understandably and undeniably still human; not the time for self-critiquing, or so they thought. Some of his adventures finally led him to his future Sicilian wife, who taught him the true meaning of steadfast affection. Her laborious travels following his movements through war torn Italy convinced him and finally led to her joining him in New York.

Heart pounding and gut wrenching, SICILIAN ESCAPADE is another touching memoir that proves true love conquers all and for man’s well-being, the search for a bit of comic relief is always inevitable. This volume will remind readers that love has no specific time and place. It arrives when one least expects it.
