Dental Care For The Hispanic Population Is In High Demand And Currently Available At Mint Springs Dentistry Located In Mason City, Iowa
Mason City, Iowa (PRWEB) May 31, 2017 -- According to the Hispanic Dental Association, there is an extreme shortage of Hispanic dentists available to deliver dental care to a historically underrepresented minority in the United States – namely Hispanics. This shortage is all the more alarming due to the disproportionate nature of practicing Hispanic dentists and Hispanic individuals applying to, attending, and graduating from dental schools across the nation.
Dr. Noemi Cruz-Orcutt is one of the few dentists in the entire State of Iowa who speaks Spanish and English fluently and the only one, outside of the University of Iowa, that grew up in a Spanish speaking country. The ability to speak English and Spanish fluently, growing up in a Hispanic culture and being an excellent dentist provides her patients a truly comprehensive dental care experience.
Spanish speaking patients routinely express their gratitude throughout their dental care to Dr. Cruz-Orcutt on how comforting it is to have a dentist that not only speaks their language but also understands their background and culture.
“I enjoy when I am able to share my native language and culture with patients that otherwise might not receive the dental care they need,” states Dr. Noemi Cruz-Orcutt of Mint Springs Dentistry. “I understand there is a disparity among Hispanic patients being able to have access to care and I want to make sure they know I am here to provide the dental care they need and ensure that they feel comfortable at the same time.”
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr Noemi Cruz-Orcutt completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Sciences as a Valedictorian at the University of Puerto Rico. Dr. Cruz-Orcutt earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. While receiving her dental education, she was involved in dental research and was an active leader in various dental organizations, including the Hispanic Dental Association. Due to her academic performance and commitment to patient care, she was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) National Honor Dental Society, in addition to receiving other dental awards. She practiced as an Associate Dentist in Charlottesville, Virginia prior to moving to Mason City, Iowa.
Dr. Cruz-Orcutt is also a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association, Seattle Study Club, Spear Education Study Club and The Dawson Academy.
Dr. Cruz-Orcutt lives in Mason City with her husband Dr. Kevin Orcutt and their two children, Lukas and Adaliz. The family enjoys the outdoors with their dog Raleigh, photography, traveling, music and the company of friends and family.
