Mirena IUD Lawsuit News: Bernstein Liebhard LLP Notes Upcoming Status Conference in New Jersey Mirena Litigation
New York, New York (PRWEB) September 20, 2013 -- Mirena IUD lawsuits (http://www.themirenalawsuitcenter.com/) continue to move forward in a multicounty litigation now underway in New Jersey’s Bergen County Superior Court. According to court documents, the litigation’s next Case Management Conference will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Court records indicate that at least 215 Mirena lawsuits are pending in Bergen County, all of which allege young women suffered uterine perforations and other serious Mirena complications due to spontaneous migration of the IUD. (In Re: Mirena Litigation; Case No. 297)
“We are already representing a number of women in Mirena IUD lawsuits, and continue to hear from alleged victims of Mirena complications on a regular basis. We are pleased to see this litigation progressing,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free legal evaluations to alleged victims of serious Mirena complications, including uterine perforations, uterine embedment, infections, scarring and ectopic pregnancy.
Mirena lawsuits
Used by more than 2 million women, the Mirena IUD was launched on the U.S. market by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals in 2000. The device is now approved as both a method of birth control and as a treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding in women who wish to use an IUD as their primary form of contraception. However, according to a recent report from 7 Action News in Detroit, data from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) indicates that since 2008, more than 6,000 Mirena users have suffered incidents of device dislocation or uterine perforation. Since 2000, more than 70,000 possible Mirena complications have been reported to the agency.*
According to court documents, all of the Mirena IUD lawsuits pending in Bergen County Superior Court accuse Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals of failing to provide patients and doctors with adequate warnings regarding the risk of Mirena complications related to spontaneous device migration. Plaintiffs further allege that the company has a history of downplaying the serious risks associated with Mirena and misrepresenting its benefits.
In addition to the Mirena lawsuits pending in New Jersey, nearly 200 claims involving similar allegations have been filed in a multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York. Court records indicate that the first trials in that litigation could get underway in late 2015. (In re: Mirena IUD Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2434)
Victims of alleged Mirena complications may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more. Learn More about Mirena IUD lawsuits by visiting Bernstein Liebhard LLP’s website. For additional information, please call 800-511-5092.
