New York, New York (PRWEB) August 06, 2013
Bernstein Liebhard LLP continues to monitor the progress of Mirena lawsuits (http://www.mirenaiud-lawsuit.com/) filed in courts throughout the U.S. According to court documents, conferences have been scheduled in the federal multidistrict litigation recently established in U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York for all federally-filed Mirena IUD lawsuits. The proceeding’s next conference is set for August 14, 2013 at 9:30 a.m., with at least seven more to follow over the next year. (In re: Mirena IUD Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2434)
“In addition to the Mirena lawsuit clients we already represent, our Firm hears from women on a regular basis who have allegedly suffered severe Mirena complications that required surgical removal of the IUD. We look forward to additional progress in this proceeding over the next year,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free Mirena IUD lawsuit consultations to anyone who may have been harmed by this birth control device.
Mirena IUD Lawsuits
Court records indicate that at least 100 Mirena lawsuits are currently pending in the Southern District of New York, all of which allege the IUD caused women to suffer serious complications, including infections and organ damage, after it perforated the uterus and migrated to other areas of the body. Plaintiffs further allege that Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals has a history of overstating the benefits of the IUD and downplaying the risk of serious Mirena complications.
According to court documents, at least 173 additional Mirena IUD lawsuits involving similar allegations have been filed in New Jersey’s Bergen County Superior Court. The next Case Management Conference in that proceeding is scheduled for August 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. (In Re: Mirena Litigation; Case No. 297)
The Mirena IUD was approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) as a birth control method in 2000. In 2009, the agency cleared Mirena to alleviate heavy menstrual periods in women who wish to use an IUD as their primary method of birth control. According to recent media reports, more than 70,000 complaints involving Mirena complications have been logged with the FDA since the IUD was brought to market, including thousands of reports detailing device migration and uterine perforations.* In 2009, Bayer received an FDA Warning Letter which cited a Mirena promotional campaign for making misleading claims about the purported benefits of the IUD and its potential side effects.
Alleged victims of Mirena complications related to spontaneous migration of the device may be entitled to compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages.
