It’s not at all surprising that the number of Mirena lawsuits pending in New Jersey has surpassed 200.

Mirena lawsuit (http://www.filemirenalawsuit.com/) claims filed on behalf of young women who suffered uterine perforations and other alleged Mirena complications continue to mount in state and federal courts, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to court documents, 215 Mirena IUD lawsuits are now pending in a multicounty litigation underway in New Jersey’s Bergen County Superior Court. (In Re: Mirena Litigation; Case No. 297)

“Our Firm hears from young women on a regular basis who have allegedly suffered serious Mirena complications, many of whom have had to undergo surgery to locate and remove the IUD after it spontaneously migrated from its proper position in the uterus. It’s not at all surprising that the number of Mirena lawsuits pending in New Jersey has surpassed 200,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free Mirena IUD lawsuit evaluations to women who may have been harmed by the birth control device.

Mirena IUD Lawsuits
Approved as both a contraceptive and as a treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding in women who wish to use an IUD as their primary method of birth control, the Mirena IUD has been on the market since 2000. According to a report from 7 Action News in Detroit, thousands of Mirena complications have been logged by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) adverse event database, including more than 4,700 reports of device dislocation and 1,322 instance of uterine perforation since 2008.*

According to court documents, plaintiffs who have filed Mirena lawsuits in the New Jersey litigation accuse Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals of failing to provide patients and doctors with adequate warnings regarding the risk of spontaneous device migration and related Mirena complications. These lawsuits further claim that Bayer has downplayed the IUD’s serious risks, and overstated its benefits. Among other things, plaintiffs point out that Bayer received an FDA Warning Letter in 2009 that raised similar concerns about one of the company’s Mirena promotions.

Court records indicate at least 123 additional Mirena IUD lawsuits involving similar allegations have been filed in a federal multidistrict litigation now underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York. (In re: Mirena IUD Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2434) Conferences in both the New Jersey and federal proceedings are scheduled to be held next week.

Alleged victims of Mirena complications may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and more. Learn More about filing a Mirena lawsuit by visiting Bernstein Liebhard LLP’s website. For additional information, please call 800-511-5092.
