Mirena Lawsuits Approach 1,400 in Bergen County Litigation, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 21, 2014 -- The number of Mirena lawsuits (http://www.mirenalawsuit2014.com/) is nearing 1,400 in a consolidated litigation underway in New Jersey, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.
According to court documents, a total of 1,375 claims involving the birth control IUD have now been filed in Bergen County Superior Court. These lawsuits were filed by women who allege spontaneous migration of the device, which they claim to have led to uterine perforations and other complications they were inadequately warned about by its manufacturer, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals. (In Re: Mirena Litigation; Case No. 297)
“Our Firm is representing a large number of women who were allegedly harmed by the Mirena IUD. We are pleased to see the New Jersey litigation continuing to progress,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices including Mirena. The Firm is currently offering free and confidential case evaluations to women who allegedly suffered serious complications of the IUD.
Mirena Lawsuits
The Mirena IUD was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2000 as a contraceptive. The device is inserted directly into the uterus, where it emits low doses of the synthetic progestin, levonorgestrel, as a means of preventing pregnancy for up to five years. Nine years after its initial clearance, the device received additional approval from the FDA as a treatment for women who suffer from heavy menstrual bleeding.* Also in 2009, the FDA issued a Warning Letter to Bayer that found certain marketing claims about Mirena to be misleading.
In addition to the New Jersey litigation established for state-filed Mirena lawsuits, where attorneys at Bernstein Liebhard LLP are actively filing claims, court documents in a federal litigation involving the IUD show that 1,121 cases have been filed. This proceeding is currently underway in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York. (In re: Mirena IUD Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2434)
Women who were allegedly injured by Mirena may be eligible to receive compensation for out-of-pocket medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and more.
