The Firm is currently offering free legal evaluations to alleged victims of serious Mirena complications.
Mirena IUD Lawsuits
Court documents indicate that roughly 180 Mirena lawsuits have been filed in the New Jersey proceeding, while at least 123 claims involving similar allegations are pending in the federal multidistrict litigation. The lawsuits accuse Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals of downplaying the serious risks associated with Mirena and exaggerating its benefits. All of the claims have been filed on behalf of young women who allegedly suffered serious Mirena side effects, including uterine perforations, damage to other organs, infections, scarring, and ectopic pregnancy, after the device migrated following its correct placement in the uterus.
The Mirena IUD was brought to market by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals in 2000. The device has been approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) as a long-acting contraceptive, and as a treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding in women who wish to use an IUD as their primary method of birth control. In 2009, Bayer received an FDA Warning Letter which criticized the company over marketing claims the agency deemed to be misleading. According to recent media reports, the FDA has received more than 70,000 complaints involving Mirena side effects, including instances of device dislocation and uterine perforation, since the IUD was first brought to market.*
Victims of alleged Mirena side effects related to spontaneous migration of the IUD may be entitled to compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages.
