"You want the judge's eyes to lock onto that face. That's my job... It's all about the girl, about framing her."

For almost twenty years, Stefanie Somers has been weaving crystals into magic for pageant competitors at all levels, snagging her first national winner in 1996 when Keylee Sue Sanders took the title of Miss Teen USA wearing a pair of her earrings. "For a designer working in crystal, "Pageantland" is a fabulous place to be," says Somers, a former pro ballroom dancer and fashion accessory buyer. "Sparkle is always trending, bigger is always better, and being seen is the name of the game. Add in the gorgeous faces and glamorous gowns for inspiration and it's an amazing gig!" More national winners followed, including Shandi Finnessey, Allie LaForce, Stevie Perry, Danielle Doty, Rima Fakih and Nana Meriwether.
Somers' ready-to-wear jewelry line is popular among state and local pageant hopefuls, while the national level titleholders generally opt for the custom "Couture" designs. Couture designs are individually handcrafted and take many hours each to design & perfect. "You want the judge's eyes to lock onto that face. That's my job. I start with the shape and colors of the gown, and always take the facial shape and proportions of the competitor into consideration, even their height. You really want to elongate the look as much as possible, go for that vertical. It's all about the girl, about framing her."
