History of MMS Lists
The history of MMS begins in 1918 when Fred Jungbluth bought the Mason Addressing Co. At the time, Mason Addressing Co. provided mailing for medical accounts near St. Louis and it was the first company to subscribe to the American Medical Association physician list directory service. In 1927, Jungbluth bought Medical Mailing Service which was based in Chicago, and two years later, both companies were merged under the Medical Mailing Service name. The entire company moved its operations to Chicago in 1936. Jungbluth continued to run the business until 1955 when his son Grover took over.
In 1973, Medical Mailing Service became Medical Marketing Service as it sold the mailing aspect of the business and made the switch to data and data processing. Between 1973 and 1984, Medical Marketing Service worked with several medical associations such as AANA, ADHA, ACS, ACOG, and others to put together computerized membership lists. They improved the turn-around time of their list count selections in 1985 by partnering with NAPR which formed the basis for their current 24/7 self-service Names Online Without Waiting (NOWW) system. By 1996, all of MMS’s data had been transferred to a PC-based platform where customers could access their data.
Medical Marketing Service got involved with electronic data delivery in 1997 during a two week UPS strike. The strike caused a delay in the delivery of their printed labels, which in turn led MMS to convert 40 percent of its customers to an electronic data delivery system. The next year, MMS added email marketing to its services with the launch of the Med-E-Mail Broadcast Service. MMS continues their email and direct mail marketing services to this day and they are planning several updates to their NOWW system so that their customers have more freedom to access their data.
