Commercial construction firm Ramtech Building Systems of Mansfield, TX has announced that the company has secured a contract for the design, manufacture, and installation of 17 modular buildings totaling 69,776 square feet for the West Independent School District in West, TX. Ramtech will provide three 10-classroom buildings, four computer and science labs, two locker room buildings, an administrative office, cafeteria, library, and a life schools building to be used by all grade levels as a replacement for the facilities damaged and destroyed by the massive fertilizer plant explosion that was located near the District's schools on April 17, 2013. All of the modular school buildings for the $2.5 million project will be leased through the Texas BuyBoard cooperative purchasing network. West ISD currently has plans to use the replacement buildings for up to two years or until new permanent facilities can be built.
The modular construction project is part of $5.6 million in disaster aid provided by FEMA for infrastructure repairs and temporary classrooms. West ISD will also be receiving donated portable classrooms from other local school districts including Mansfield ISD, Grand Prairie ISD, and Temple ISD. Ramtech will provide the modular buildings and work together with Bartlett Cocke General Contractors, the construction manager, and Huckabee Architecture Engineering Management, the designer of record for the project. According to Gary White, Ramtech's vice president of sales and estimating, “All of the parties involved in this effort recognized that Ramtech was the one modular building company with the experience and capacity to be able to handle a project of this size this quickly." All of the modular buildings will be located on the existing site of the District's middle school which will be demolished to provide space for all the facilities. Each of the buildings will utilize a 26 gauge R-panel metal exterior, while the interiors will incorporate vinyl covered gypsum on the walls and vinyl composition tile for the floors.
