Mojo Takes New Approach and Generates Largest Donation for Retired Race Horses
Fort Worth, TX (PRWEB) October 15, 2013 -- Every year, Mojo Thoroughbred Holdings, LLC makes annual donations to the two charities it supports: The Permanently Disabled Jockey’s Fund and Remember Me Rescue. During the summer, Mojo also sponsors an event to raise awareness and additional funds for their charities.
“This year, we challenged ourselves and took a new approach to try to generate additional contributions during our summer charity campaign,” reports, Fred Taylor, Mojo’s CEM. “Our goal was to raise $1,000 during July, August, and September—that’s five times more than what we’ve typically produced during our past summer campaigns.”
Mojo turned to the online crowdfunding platform, FundRazr, and raised almost $700. Additional private contributions provided the money needed to reach the $1,000 goal.
“It was important to me to go above and beyond what Mojo has ever donated to a charity,” Fred explains. “To assist with our efforts, I turned to crowdfunding to help raise awareness and money. Then I added perks (Mojo Merchandise) if people gave larger amounts. And, thanks to the generosity of our partners, fellow horsemen, and fans, we met our goal!”
All of the proceeds collected (minus FundRazr’s service charges) were donated to Remember Me Rescue—Mojo did not receive any cut from the contributions.
“Mojo was very generous and worked hard to promote this fundraiser,” says Donna Keen, Founder of Remember Me Rescue. “These donations are used to help care for injured horses that need several months rest before they begin retraining for second careers—it goes a long way in supporting the horses we love and ensures they will have a bright future.”
“Every time an owner like Mojo steps up to do something for racehorse retirement, other owners start thinking about what they can do,” Donna explains. “It is a domino effect, and I hope by promoting these efforts more people will realize we do take care of our horses after they can no longer race.”
Remember Me Rescue
The Remember Me Retired Racehorse Program was formed in 2008 by Dallas and Donna Keen to assist retired and injured race horses after their careers at the track are over. Remember Me accepts, rehabilitates, and retrains ex-race horses with the hopes of finding new homes with responsible owners. Remember Me is an IRS approved 501(c)3 Program.
