Snowboarding is a way of life – you just have to let go and flow - Jamie Anderson

Monster Energy salutes Jamie Anderson’s return to the top of the podium with a first-place victory at the US Open in Vail, Colorado. On a newly redesigned slopestyle course Anderson scored an 86.85 on her first run placing her well ahead of the rest of the field in a day that saw our veteran superstar prove once again that she is indeed, the one to beat.

The Colorado sun was in full force as the competition got underway at Eagle County’s legendary Vail resort, the home of the US Open of Snowboarding. Due to stormy conditions earlier in the week, the semi-finals were scrapped in lieu of a super-final, which saw a field of 16 women snowboarders go head-to-head in a best of a two run competition. Also, because of varied input from the community of snowboarding the slopestyle course was completely redesigned offering the riders new opportunities to showcase their creativity on the custom-built course. That said conditions could not have been better for the 25-year-old Anderson.

Returning to competition in top form after a couple nasty crashes on the Big Air jump at the Oslo X Games last week, Anderson took to the course with her trademarked calm demeanor. As the final rider to drop, Anderson wasted no time on her first run putting down a stylish and confident display that ultimately wouldn’t be topped.

Beginning with a gap to frontside lip slide on the top rail, the regular footed Anderson proceeded to snap off a backside lip slide to backside 270 out on the next one before getting crafty with a backside 180 transfer off an all new halfpipe like feature in the middle of the course.

Lining up for the next three jumps she then proceeded to throw in succession, a flawless cab 540 followed a stylish frontside 720, before wrapping up her run with a textbook backside 540 indy grab on the final 70-foot kicker.

It was a run that above else commanded the lead, to which Anderson simply said, “I try to not worry about what the rest of the girls are doing and just stay true to what I do.”

With the second half of the competition still to go and despite solid efforts from the rest of the ladies, Anderson once again saw herself atop the course, the recipient of a victory lap. And though she could have coasted through, always looking to push the envelope, Anderson attempted a switch backside 540 off the side transition off one of the jumps, taking advantage of the new look slopestyle course. Though she didn’t land it cleanly it was her attitude towards originality that spoke the loudest.

“It’s so fun because it keeps all of us progressing,” said Anderson of the inventive course.
Anderson, who has won an Olympic gold medal in the event is considered by many to be the most influential rider in the history of women’s slopestyle. This win capped off another incredible season for her indomitable spirit.

“Snowboarding is a way of life – you just have to let go and flow,” Anderson.
