Monster Energy's Jamie Anderson Grabs Silver in Women's Snowboard Slopestyle at X Games Norway
HAFJELL, Norway (PRWEB) March 11, 2017 -- Monster Energy congratulates Jamie Anderson on a silver medal in Snowboard Slopestyle at X Games Norway. Capping off a podium filled season, Anderson distanced herself even further as the most medaled rider in X Games Snowboard Slopestyle history with this most recent piece of hardware.
Shadowed by a brilliant Norwegian sunset, the first snowboard finals of the competition went down on the slopes of Hafjell Ski Resort, site of the 1994 Olympic Games. Amidst ever-changing snow conditions and dropping temperatures, the best women riders in the world battled a slopestyle course that put their skills to the test.
From the start speed was an issue. After the first rail section it became difficult for many of the girls to clear the jumps. Lacking enough momentum to take them through the course, if each trick wasn't landed perfectly, speed was lost and runs were compromised. Such was the case for Anderson who after a slight mishap was forced to scrub her first run.
Sitting in seventh place, unfamiliar territory for the 26-year-old slopestyle icon, Anderson then showed why she is one of the most feared competitors in the sport. Whether she used some different wax or stretched out with a couple of yoga moves in the interim something changed, because she dropped into her second and final run hot.
With a couple set up tricks on the upper rails she glided into a clean boardslide 270 on the tall flat rail before racing towards the jump line. Floating one of the best frontside 720's in the game, Anderson landed flat based and then flew into a classic backside 540 Indy. Having secured her speed, she launched two of the biggest airs of the competition, a Cab 720 tail grab followed by a switch backside 540. In the end, her flawless execution and steady style shot her all the way to second place missing the gold by just a single point.
"I'm so hyped to put down a run and get second place," said Anderson. "It was a changing course and I'm just thankful to land a decent run."
Anderson, who won her first X Games Gold ten years ago at the age of 16 has become the most decorated rider in Slopestyle competition, and that goes for men and women. Taking first at the Mammoth Grand Prix as well as a silver medal at X Games Aspen earlier this year, it is an expected end to a successful competition season for the South Lake Tahoe native. But for Anderson, the work has only just begun as she looks to defend her Olympic Gold medal at next year’s winter games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
ESPN and TV2 will each distribute 13.5 hours of live coverage. TV2 will air the competitions live in Norway, while ESPN’s coverage will be distributed live in the U.S. on ESPN3 and as part of its World of X Games series on ABC. In addition to the content on ESPN’s U.S. media platforms, X Games Norway 2017 will be televised globally on ESPN International networks and distributed to other international media outlets and broadcasters via ESPN’s media distribution business.
