Monster Energy’s Gus Kenworthy Takes Ski SuperPipe Bronze at X Games Oslo 2016. Kenworthy secures second X Games Oslo 2016 medal.
Oslo, Norway (PRWEB) February 28, 2016 -- Monster Energy congratulates Gus Kenworthy on winning his second X Games Oslo 2016 Bronze medal. The 2015-16 ski season has been a banner year for the Telluride, Colorado skier.
Freeskiing’s most versatile athlete, Kenworthy has now clinched his fifth X Games medal—four of which he’s earned this season. The 24-year-old now boasts one of freeskiing’s most diverse hardware collections and has carved out a spot in history books alongside veterans Tanner Hall and Candide Thovex.
On Sunday evening, Kenworthy and seven fellow competitors exhibited their top tricks under the lights on the 520-foot SuperPipe at Winter Park Oslo. Due to the Oslo X Games SuperPipe being almost 50 feet shorter than the Aspen X Games SuperPipe, the athletes had to switch up their strategy. The male ski athletes had to choose between going for five hits and showcasing their depth of spins or going for four hits and focusing on amplitude in their tricks.
For Kenworthy, the game of amplitude peppered with some highly technical spins earned him a spot on the podium.
Crashing in his first two runs, he was able to perform under pressure and stick it to his feet on his third and final run. Kenworthy’s top score was a 90.33 and featured a switch double 1080 to a rightside 1080 to a double cork 1260 and ended with a crowd- and judge-pleasing alley oop double flatspin 900.
“This has been a big year for me, personally and in my skiing,” said Kenworthy.
