Monster Energy Riders Sweep Podium in the 2018 Mountain Bike World Cup Overall in La Bresse, France
LA BRESSE, France (PRWEB) August 27, 2018 -- Monster Energy riders sweep the podium in the 2018 Mountain Bike World Cup overall as the season concludes in La Bresse, France. Amaury Pierron (FRA) secured the overall World Cup title this past weekend and Monster Energy teammates Danny Hart (GBR) took second and Troy Brosnan(AUS) took third overall.
Pierron took to the newly cut track in La Bresse, France and gave it everything he had in front of the partisan French crowd even though he had already secured the title in the race before. Torrential rains on and off all week turned the track into a slippery mess on the morning of the race after the soft dirt tore up all week and exposed a spider web network of roots. A series of slips lead to a 10th place finish for Pierron, but didn’t dampen his spirits sporting his fresh Gold #1 Monster Energy helmet and overall series win.
“I don’t now what happened," said Pierron. "I missed something here, but I’m really happy to win the overall. It was a really great season with three wins, two more podiums and everything was just perfect with the team and trainer. This morning the track was very fast when it was raining a lot and for the last riders the rain stopped and then it was really sticky, but it was a good track with fresh lines.”
Hart also didn’t get the run he was looking for. The ‘Redcar Rocket’ is known for excelling when conditions go sideways, but also fell victim to the sticky mud.
“It’s been really good to come in second overall," said Hart. "I haven’t had the best season results wise, but I have been consistent with points even though I would have liked to have won a race and been on the podium more. It’s been great though with the first year on a new team and I am really happy with how it turned out.”
The two-time world champion is looking forward to chasing another set of rainbow stripes at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland September 4 – 9.
“I always look forward to World Champs and I have won in Lenzerheide before so I know what it takes to win and will go there and put all of our eggs in one basket and try and do that,” continued Hart.
Brosnan made his fifth appearance in the top three of the World Cup overall in the past five years and was happy with how the season went.
“It was tough out there today," said Brosnan. "I had a really good run going and over steered and kind of came to a stop on a drop. I had to sort of foot-plant off so I lost heaps of time, but I was feeling good and the run was going pretty sweet. I’m stoked to get another top three out of this and looking forward to world’s now to try and get those rainbows.”
Monster Energy teammates Connor Fearon (AUS) placed 8th in France and ended up 10th in the overall for the year. Mark Wallace (CAN) was 19th at finals in La Bresse and finished the season in 12th place overall. Brendan Fairclough rounded out the class of 18 in 33rd place.

World Championships now takes place in next week in Lenzerheide, Switzerland where riders will race a single race for cycling’s coveted Rainbow jersey as World Champion.
