Monster Energy's Sam Hill Wins the Meribel 7th UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Finals | Teammate Josh Bryceland Takes Third Place and the Overall Series Title
(PRWEB) August 24, 2014 -- Meribel, France was the site for Monster Energy’s Sam Hill, Australia, to back up his Mont Sainte-Anne win a couple of weeks ago with yet another exciting win. Joining Hill on the podium was Britain’s Josh Bryceland who took third place, which was enough to lock in the elite overall UCI Mountain Bike World Cup downhill Series title.
The brand new track here in Meribel was steep, technical and fast. Many people have called it the track of the year, and even potentially one of the best downhill tracks of all time. With dusty conditions, the track was as fast and loose as racers have seen all season. Taped wide from top to bottom, there were line choices all over the place, which are conditions Hill thrives on. Being able to be creative is the hallmark of champion downhill racers, and the five-time World Champion didn’t hold back on this amazing track.
“This feels awesome,” said Hill. “I've been feeling nervous all day for some reason and think it was just about the run I wanted to put down, but I stayed on the track and nothing felt sketchy or out of control. I'm stoked to get the win and take this momentum into Worlds.”
Hill also took 4th place overall in the World Cup this season, proving he is more than back at the top of his game.
For his part, Bryceland was ecstatic on taking his first World Cup overall victory as well as third place on the day.
"I’m pinching myself, its mental,” said Bryceland. “I knew it was within reach this weekend because I was riding great, but it’s still sinking in. I don't even know what to do with myself. It's only going to get better.”
Monster Energy’s Troy Brosnan took third overall in the series marking his presence amongst the fastest racers in the world, and Monster Energy athletes dominated the tour winning five of the seven World Cup stops this season.
Next up, catch Bryceland, Brosnan, Hill, and Steve Peat representing their respective countries in Hafjell, Norway for the MTB Downhill World Championships.
