Monster Energy Ski and Snowboard Athletes Win Big at the U.S. Grand Prix Copper. Kim, Sharpe, Sigourney, and Wise Were Among Those on the Podium in Copper, CO
COPPER, Colo. (PRWEB) December 10, 2018 -- Monster Energy would like to congratulate snowboard superstar, Chloe Kim, for earning first place at the first major halfpipe contest of the year, the U.S. Grand Prix hosted at Copper Mountain in Colorado where the world’s best snowboarders and skiers compete. On the ski side of things, Monster Energy athletes, Cassie Sharpe and Brita Sigourney placed second and third respectively in women’s halfpipe and David Wise placed third in the men’s halfpipe division.
Kim dominated the women’s snowboard halfpipe competition on Saturday by scoring 92.25 on her second run, which was enough to secure the win. She has won this contest for the past two years in a row and has now earned her third consecutive win at the event.
Kim, who made history with her Olympic debut in PyeongChang in 2018 by winning gold, was the only woman to score more than 90 points in Saturday’s finals. Her first run scored a 90.00, and with her second run score at 92.25 she was able to take a victory lab on her third run.
Following the event, Kim took her to social media accounts and posted, “First comp of the season. Good times were had; shout out to all the ladies killing it today! Excited for Dew Tour next week.”
In the ski competition, Monster Energy athletes were fired up to throw down in the first event of the season. Olympic gold medalist Sharpe, of Canada, placed second with her top score of 89.75. She skied with confidence and wowed judges with her style and amplitude. Sigourney also skied well, and claimed third place with her third and final run. She put down a clean run and scored an 88.00, which sealed the deal for a spot on the podium.
Wise had his sights set on first place, but unfortunately had to settle with his first run score to claim third place. He placed 90.50 on his first run, which was enough to keep him on the podium.
The U.S. Grand Prix presented by Toyota is now in its 32nd iteration. As a premier ski and snowboarding event, it brings together international, top-tier athletes from around the world. The past weekend’s event marked the first major halfpipe competition for the 2018-2019 season. Skiers and snowboarders will now turn their attention to the Dew Tour, which is taking place December 13-16 in Breckenridge, Colorado.
Stay tuned for more winning action from Monster Energy athletes.
