Monster Energy’s David Wise Wins Men’s Freeski Superpipe Event Dew Tour Breckenridge
Corona, Calif (PRWEB) December 13, 2015 -- Monster Energy’s David Wise Wins the Men’s Freeski Superpipe contest today at the Dew Tour Breckenridge event. Teammate, Beau-James Wells takes second place.
Snowfall throughout most of Saturday made for a slow Freeski Superpipe men’s practice. Luckily, a drop in temperatures right around the time the competition kicked off quickly changed that and allowed the athletes to perform their best tricks, like double cork 1260s.
Wise pulled an incredible comeback, after a rough first run, and landed the most impressive leftside and rideside double cork 1260s, which earned him a top score of 91.60 and put him in first place.
“I fell on my first run, which is uncharacteristic of me,” said Wise. Usually, if I am going to do well, I land my first run and then kind of cruise so that was a lot of pressure for me. There was no coasting on this one.”
His winning run featured a rightside 900 to a leftside double cork 1260 to a rightside 1080 into a switch cork 720 and finished off with a rightside double cork 1260. The aforementioned closing trick showcased the strength and persistence that has consistently landed Wise at the top of the podium. Going into the last hit, it looked like he didn’t have enough speed.
“I went for the rightside double cork 1260 with way less amplitude than I’m used to,” said Wise. “Even with that, it was very close – like 90 versus 91.”
In only his second Dew Tour finals event, Wells, of Wanaka, New Zealand was able to secure second place. After his first run, Wells was in first, and after his second run, he was still in first. In fact, his second run, a 90.40, scored even higher than his first. The run that clinched second place featured a switch 720, right double 1260 into a left 900 to a right double 900 to a right double 1260 for the finale.
“Probably the best I’ve ever felt after a competition,” said Wells. “I landed three new tricks that I’d just learned and it was the first time I’ve done them in competition. I was a little worried, I didn’t think I’d be able to do my 12’s because I couldn’t go high enough, but I put enough wax on my skis and it was good.”
