EMCO MSI Package Builder 5

The main goal of EMCO MSI Package Builder is converting non-silent installations into silent MSI packages. In the new version of the application, this goal can be achieved using the installation monitoring and installation wrapping technologies.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) January 31, 2014

EMCO Software, a leading provider of software solutions for automated and remote software deployment, has released a new version of its EMCO MSI Package Builder software. EMCO MSI Package Builder version 5 is a brand-new MSI authoring and application packaging tool that features a new user interface and a number of installation repackaging improvements designed to simplify installation repackaging.

The main goal of EMCO MSI Package Builder is converting non-silent installations into silent MSI packages. In the new version of the application, this goal can be achieved using the installation monitoring and installation wrapping technologies. To use the monitoring technology, a network administrator should manually install an original installation package and follow the installation steps. EMCO MSI Package Builder captures file system and registry changes of the original installation and generates an MSI applying those changes. This installation repackaging approach can be used if the repackaged installation doesn't support silent deployment.

If the repackaged installation can be deployed silently, it may be converted to an MSI package using the wrapping repackaging technology. The installation wrapping is a new feature introduced in the latest version of EMCO MSI Package Builder. It allows including original EXE and MSI installations into the generated MSI package. During MSI deployment, the included installations are installed silently. Silent installation parameters or answer files should be specified for all non-silent wrapped installations.

"The new wrapping repackaging approach should help network administrators to repackage installations more quickly and easily. If the original installation supports silent deployment and the network administrator only needs to change the installation format and create an MSI package instead of EXE, this installation can be wrapped. Wrapping works faster than repackaging and guarantees a better result. Wrapping can be used to repackage multiple installations into a single package, which allows network administrators to create software bundles and distribute them easily across a network," Thorarinn Oskarsson, CEO at EMCO Software, says.

The new version of EMCO MSI Package Builder includes a brand-new installation monitoring engine. It automatically tracks the statuses of all the installation processes and stops monitoring when all the processes have been completed. It guarantees that all the required installation changes are captured by the application. Thanks to this, EMCO MSI Package Builder is one of the most capable application packaging tools on the market with one of the best repackaging success rate.
