Proving that not all angels have wings, “My Special Angel: Miss Beverly Ann Brown” (published by Balboa Press) celebrates the life of a red-haired daughter who was a ray of sunshine, who always wore a smile and scattered happiness and God’s love through her hugs to everyone with whom she came in contact during her 55 years on earth.

In a heartfelt and moving personal narrative, author Doris Barnes Brown gives readers a glimpse into the journey of her daughter Miss Beverly Ann Brown and how she touched many lives along the way.

“My daughter who was born in 1962 with Down syndrome,” the author shares. “Even at an early age, Beverly was a blessing spreading God’s love with her hugs to everyone she met. Through her experiences on her life’s journey and her desire for independence, this red-haired, energetic, beautiful lady was instrumental in helping to pave the way for other mentally-challenged persons.”

Brown observes that persons with Down syndrome and other special needs are much more accepted and better treated today than in 1962 when her daughter was born. Back then, they were called “mongoloids” and were considered “closet children.” These children were kept at home because it was believed that they could not learn so there were no schools for them. It was not until her daughter was 12 that public schools provided education to children who were mentally-challenged. Miss Beverly Ann Brown, as she liked to be called, helped pave the way for a change in knowledge and acceptance of mentally-challenged persons.

“My Special Angel: Miss Beverly Ann Brown” aims to promote awareness, acceptance and love for persons who are mentally-challenged and those with special needs. To purchase a copy of the book, visit https://www.amazon.com/My-Special-Angel-Beverly-Brown/dp/1982239344.
