NAHREP Urges Calabria to Protect Cornerstones of Hispanic Homeownership
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (PRWEB) December 13, 2018 -- The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) looks forward to constructive discussions with President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), Dr. Mark Calabria.
Since 2000, Hispanics have been responsible for 46.5 percent of net U.S. homeownership gains and have been the only demographic to have increased their rate of homeownership for the past three consecutive years. With Hispanics accounting for more of the U.S. population growth than any other demographic, coupled with a strong appetite for homeownership, the sustained growth of Hispanic homeownership is imperative to the overall health of the U.S. housing market. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to NAHREP to ensure any policymaker who wields enormous responsibility over the housing market place a primacy on the widespread availability of the 30-year fixed rate, fully pre-payable mortgage and the widespread availability of low downpayment financing. It is through these two cornerstones of housing policy that scores of Latinos have been able to realize the dream of homeownership. We hope that through the nomination process, we are able to learn more about Dr. Calabria’s plans for expanding opportunities for Hispanic homeownership and as such, the overall U.S. housing market.
