The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors LT. Doris (Dot) Culhane as a 2015-2016 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in law enforcement. NAPW is the nation's leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 700,000 members and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
"I'm pleased to honor Doris with this prestigious distinction," said NAPW President Star Jones. "Her service to our country is inspiring and invaluable."
As a Detention Lieutenant at Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (M.C.S.O.), Lt.. Culhane works within law enforcement, security and corrections. This includes responsibility for judicial operations control of all inmates processed and incarcerated at the M.C.S.O.’s jail facilities. Under her leadership, staff works diligently to ensure there are no violations of inmates' civil liberties, unlawful incarceration, erroneous releases and inaccurate dissemination of legal and public documents.
Lt. Culhane was recently appointed one of five project leads on the replacement of the jail management system. This will be implementing the most technologically and functionally rich jail management system in the United States, integrating seven databases into one.
The phrase that many SIMS staff members use for Lt. Culhane is "I want to be like you when I grow up," which sums up what an exceptional role model and leader she is. Lt. Culhane is the personification of a leader, mentor and professional.
“My goal is to expand the leadership ability of the supervisors under my command, to make them more effective,” said Lt. Culhane. Her obvious perseverance and dedication for improvement of her department demonstrates her commitment to excellence. During her personal time, she enjoys traveling, music and supports charitable organizations such as the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration and Hospice of the Valley.
NAPW’s mission is to provide an exclusive, highly advanced networking forum to successful women executives, professionals and entrepreneurs where they can aspire, connect and achieve.
