National Association of Professional Women Announces Major Cindy D. Messiah-Cuencas of the US National Guard, a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) September 23, 2014 -- NAPW honors Major Cindy D. Messiah-Cuencas as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership. As the largest networking organization of professional women in the country, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.
“At an early age, I remember seeing my oldest brother in his Air Force uniform and I was in awe,” says Major Messiah-Cuencas. “Several years later, I met a recruiter who told me about the National Guard and the ways I could still serve my country and my local community.”
That was more than 20 years ago. Although married when she first joined the National Guard, Major Messiah-Cuencas eventually divorced and raised her children as a single mother while continuing to proudly serve her country. She acknowledges the unique challenges single moms in the military face and applauds their efforts and dedication. “In order to balance our personal, professional and military obligations to meet and or exceed expectations requires self-discipline, sharp time management skills and good communication skills,” she says.
Major Messiah-Cuencas has been with the Hawaii National Guard since 2008 and hired into the Joint Force Headquarters in 2013. Her current title is Director of Logistics at Joint Forces Headquarters. Among her many responsibilities, Major Messiah-Cuencas manages integrating logistics information system requirements across joint programs and between logistics and other combat-support functional areas. “My duties include developing goals and objectives that integrate manpower and personnel support objectives into the state’s short and long-term operational plans,” she says. “I also review and structure capability requirements to optimize use of resources and maximize efficiency and effectiveness within the organization.”
Upon completion of her military education, Major Messiah-Cuencas hopes to “distinguish herself as a leader in business acquisition logistics management, acquire a doctorate degree in business, industrial and organizational or logistics management.” She also plans to pursue teaching at the post-graduate level and consult to businesses and universities. Innovative, determined and innately resourceful, she is confident of her own ability to succeed and appreciates the positive impact the support of others has had on her personal and professional life. “I was blessed to have great mentors, a supportive family and some great children who had a lot of love and patience when I needed it,” says Major Messiah-Cuencas.
