National Association of Professional Women Announces Birgit D. Urmson, Instructor and Author, UC Berkeley Extension, a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) September 09, 2014 -- NAPW honors Birgit D. Urmson as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in the arts. As the largest, most-recognized networking organization of professional women in the country, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.
“Loss is part of life, and I have experienced much. I've always had an interest in how art springs from life's profundities,” says Ms. Urmson.
More than 25 years ago, Ms. Urmson moved to the United States and now splits her time between her homes in California, Italy and Germany. She lectures and instructs in history, art and architectural history at the U.C. Berkeley extension and other venues. Ms. Urmson is currently writing a dissertation at her alma mater, the LMU (Ludwig Maximilian University) in München, comparing American and German WW II military cemeteries. She envisions a book on the subject.
Ms. Urmson has written and published historical novels (in German), produced and directed a documentary film for ZDF (the German television network) and helped develop a successful film festival to showcase international women film directors. She writes reviews and art criticism for selected artists and has traveled to Abu Dhabi by invitation.
Married (only once and still married) with three adult children (one severely mentally handicapped) and seven grandchildren, Ms. Urmson’s family congregates at her California home in the summer. She has been involved in various aspects of California's Independent Living movement. Also a classically trained soprano soloist, Ms. Urmson stages classical music salons in her homes in California and Italy.
In the near future, Ms. Urmson hopes to develop courses in western art and architectural history for the Islamic world.
NAPW’s mission is to provide an exclusive networking forum to professional women where they can aspire, connect and achieve.
