Laura Padgett, Author, Speaker, and Dancer is Named a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year by the National Association of Professional Women
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) September 16, 2014 -- The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) announces Laura Padgett as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. As the largest, most-recognized networking organization of professional women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, NAPW is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.
An author, speaker and dancer, Ms. Padgett says, “I have always been a storyteller. I tell stories through writing, speaking and dancing.”
She received her Master of Arts in Storytelling through Creative Movement, a curriculum she created, from Regis University in Colorado. Ms. Padgett has traveled the country studying, competing in and performing various dance styles. She has also taught Irish, African Healing and Messianic Dance. Ms. Padgett retired from her position in the Department of Grants and Research at Regis University four years ago.
“What do I want to do now?” Ms. Padgett said she asked herself once she retired. Always a gifted storyteller, her friends and family encouraged her to start a blog. She began blogging about her long-time mentor and friend Dolores, and the blog gained a following. After winning an award for another work, “Mama’s Ring," Ms. Padgett decided to turn her popular blog into a memoir, Dolores, Like the River, in which she writes of her struggles and difficult childhood, and her ultimate recovery because of the love and guidance of an older, wiser woman, Dolores. Her book is available from Westbow Press online, Barnes and Noble online and in stores, Amazon.com and most booksellers online.
“My book talks about beauty and aging, purpose and self-definition,” says Ms. Padgett. “I want to help women embrace who they are and to be content no matter what their age or stage.” She has received positive feedback about her book, which she finds truly rewarding, and is looking forward to many new opportunities to promote her work as a storyteller and dancer. Now 63, Ms. Padgett plans to continue telling stories, through dance, writing and public speaking, to empower and encourage women of all ages.
