National Association of Professional Women Announces Martina Nardo, Owner at Sugar Sketch Cake Design, a 2015 Professional Woman of the Year

Martina Nardo is recognized as an NAPW VIP Woman of the Year for her outstanding leadership and commitment within her profession

NAPW honors Martina Nardo, Owner of Sugar Sketch Cake Design, as a 2015 Professional Woman of the Year. Ms. Nardo is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in business. As the largest, most-recognized networking organization of professional women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and over 200 Local Chapters.

Born and raised in Rome, Italy, Ms. Nardo became passionate about food and desserts through her grandmother’s cooking. Throughout the years, she learned to appreciate the simplicity of Italian cuisine and its flavors. Her mother, a talented artist, taught Ms. Nardo about art and artistic expressions, and she grew up drawing, painting and sculpting. Eventually, Ms. Nardo began to apply her imagination and creativity toward various forms of art.

After moving to the US, Ms. Nardo graduated from the New School with a Bachelor degree in Psychology, and proceeded to attend culinary school at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE). She culminated her academic career at the French Culinary Institute (FCI) with a degree in cake techniques and designs. During her studies, she worked in several kitchen settings, from restaurants to bakeries to hotels and catering companies, where she learned to hone her skills as a baker. Her passion for cake decorating began with an internship at a cake shop in Manhattan where Ms. Nardo was amazed to see a sketch come to life in cake form. Finally, in 2013, Sugar Sketch Cake Design was launched.

Ms. Nardo's work aims at combining Italian traditional flavor profiles with modern American designs. With the best quality ingredients and everything made from scratch (including an exceptional marshmallow fondant!), the result is a memorable cake that is both beautiful and delicious.
