The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors D’vonne Day as a 2017-2018 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in entrepreneurship. NAPW is the nation’s leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 850,000 members, a thriving eChapter and over 200 operating Local Chapters.

D’Vonne Day is Vice President of DMW Distribution Co., Inc., and Owner of Inside Spanish Hills, a monthly magazine published by N2 Publishing that is written by residents for residents of Spanish Hills, Camarillo, CA. She was inspired to embark on a publishing career by a coworker. “When I was a Territory Manager for Weight Watchers, my assistant saw the job posting and, knowing me and my work ethic, thought it would be a great fit and wonderful opportunity to own my own business,” said Ms. Day, whose publication has been in print for one and a half years. Ms. Day is also a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant who enjoys “offering beautification for women and watching their skin transform.”
As sole business owner of Inside Spanish Hills, Ms. Day wears many hats. She uses her skills in marketing and sales, relationship-building and networking, creating and developing, time management and strategic planning, and more, to ensure the on-time publication of a monthly magazine of the highest quality.
“My role for the publication is fourfold,” said Ms. Day. “One role is to develop and create relationships with the residents and to foster relationships with the advertisers who essentially enable the publication to be sent to the residents free of charge.” She also meets with businesses to find those that are a good fit to present and recommend to residents. “We only target upper-scale neighborhoods whose customer choice is derived from word-of-mouth of their neighbors,” she said. Ms. Day also organizes monthly events where residents and advertisers interact. “My fourth role is to create a very personal, intimate and high-quality monthly magazine where residents write the majority of the stories about their kids, pets, friends, family and social events,” she added.
Although Ms. Day said managing her own company can be challenging, she is rewarded by the excellent feedback she receives from residents and advertisers as well as from those outside the targeted neighborhood. In addition to continuing to create a magazine that garners such positive word-of-mouth from the community, Ms. Day hopes to write a book that explores the relationship between a mother and her growing children. “I wish this type of book had been out there for me because the heart strings have been pulled watching my two kids as they approach young adult life,” she said. “Now knowing how fast this all unfolds, this is a book that would have helped me understand what to expect.”
