NAPW honors Amani Meligy as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in engineering. As the largest networking organization of professional women in the country, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.
“I was one of only five girls in my class,” says Mrs. Meligy, Civil and Structural Engineer at ASC Engineers & Assoc., Inc.-USA, and previously, at SSH International-Kuwait Branch. “In Egypt, engineering was very much a male profession.”
Mrs. Meligy was inspired to pursue the male-dominated field because of her love of mathematics and her keen interest in learning all she could about the buildings structure behavior. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt. In 1984, Mrs. Meligy came to live in California.
Certified as a Civil Professional Engineer (P.E.) from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES)-USA, and globally certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) obtained from the Project Management Institute (PMI)-USA, Mrs. Meligy has more than 20 years of experience in the field of civil engineering and structural building design. Previously, Ms. Meligy worked as an Associate / Head of Civil & Structural Department at Dar SSH International Consultants-Kuwait Branch. For more than 15 years, she led and supervised a civil / structural team of 50 engineers.
Mrs. Meligy was involved in the structural design of a wide variety of prestigious projects in the Gulf Region and the Middle East, including Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Egypt and Algeria. She attended several value engineering workshops in UK, Dubai and Oman.
Recognizing the importance of keeping pace with industry trends and being environmentally responsible, Mrs. Meligy is also a LEED Green Associate. “I am committed to the support of green building design, construction and operations through sustainable sites selection, with an emphasis on water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, material and resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation in design,” says Mrs. Meligy, who is also pursuing other industry certifications specific to California's stringent standards.
