National Association of Professional Women Inducts Debra Jacobs, Civil Engineer, Into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) March 15, 2016 -- The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Debra Jacobs as a 2015-2016 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in business and higher education. NAPW is the nation’s leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 850,000 members and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
“I am pleased to recognize Debra with this important honor,” says NAPW President Star Jones. “Her perseverance, work ethic and leadership qualities are an inspiration to all women.”
Debra Jacobs always excelled in math and abstract visualization. “Ever since I was a child, I loved to draw,” she said. “Engineering was a way to use the combination of those skills.” She chose civil engineering because it is universally needed and would provide stable employment anywhere. Because of her fascination with buildings and love for a challenge, Ms. Jacobs also chose the sub-specialty of structural engineering to round out her career choice.
Ms. Jacobs recently left the City of Palo Alto after 20 years of service. She started as an Associate Engineer and was able to attain the rank of Project Engineer. She worked in the public works department in the engineering division; taking on the capital improvement projects that involved buildings. This move would bring her more challenges including dealing with regulatory jurisdictions such as State Water Board, Fish and Wildlife and State Historic Preservation Office. Ms. Jacobs was also responsible for the selection of design professionals and construction managers.
During her time of employment with the City of Palo Alto, Ms. Jacobs’ garnered many accolades, including Best (Parking Structure) of California Award of 2004; 2011 APWA (Am. Public Works Assn.) Silicon Valley Chapter award of Merit, 2011 PAST (Palo Alto Stanford) Heritage Renovation Award; Children’s Library project, 2010 Architectural Review Board design award; and numerous awards for her work related to the Mitchell Park Library and Community Center. She also was named a Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Region A Distinguished Leader “for outstanding contributions to SWE as well as outstanding technical contributions in a field of engineering.”
