The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Maria Brown as a 2015-2016 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in business. NAPW is the nation’s leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting 850,000 members and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
“It gives me great pleasure to present Maria with this important honor,” said NAPW President Star Jones. “I applaud her for using her expertise to build a successful business enterprise.”
Although she was already a licensed Real Estate Broker, Maria Brown was inspired to pursue a degree in law after she hired an empathetic attorney to handle her divorce. “I went through a really bad divorce and had a hard time finding an attorney. I finally found a great one who worked with me and truly cared for her clients,” she said. “I decided to go get a legal degree.”
Ms. Brown went on to obtain her Master’s degree in Conflict Resolution and recently became a State of Florida Supreme Court Mediator. “I’ve been in my current position for almost a year,” said Ms. Brown. “I volunteered for the courts before I started so all together almost two years.” Currently, she has three State of Florida Supreme Court Certifications and is working toward two more goals this year: certifications for Appellate and Parent Coordinator.
Working as a Mediator is a natural fit for Ms. Brown. As a Real Estate Broker, she excelled at negotiating contracts between buyers and sellers and as a teacher for 15 years, she worked with both students and their families. “I learned to read people well. My interpersonal skills increased greatly all throughout my life,” she said. This experience helps her manage the often challenging task of working on multiple cases with issues unique to each family. Her successes in coaching clients toward agreements and resolutions is what Ms. Brown finds most rewarding, and it is what inspires her to pursue a Juris Doctor in the near future and continue to grow her mediation business.
NAPW’s mission is to provide an exclusive networking forum to successful professional women where they can aspire, connect and achieve. Through innovative resources, tools and benefits, members interact, exchange ideas, advance their knowledge and empower each other.
