NAPW Announces Laura Wheat, Mayor of Town of Westlake and Owner of Cassie's LLC DBA Cassie’s Gourmet Popcorn, a 2015 Professional Woman of the Year

Ms. Wheat is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in business and public service. Since 2008, Ms. Wheat has served as Mayor of the town that is located in Northeast Tarrant County, between Fort Worth and Dallas. Along with Town staff, Ms. Wheat works tirelessly to maintain the community’s reputation as “an oasis of tranquility and natural beauty amidst an ever expanding urban landscape.”
A former practicing Attorney, Ms. Wheat has an extensive background in the nonprofit arena, serving on boards of such esteemed organizations as Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, Gilda’s Club North Texas, Cancer Support Community-National and the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute. As Mayor of Westlake, she is President of the Board of Trustees of Westlake Academy, an IBO World School and the only municipally owned charter school in Texas.
Ms. Wheat’s latest venture is as Owner of Cassie’s Gourmet Popcorn. “Our vision is to be nationally known for putting gourmet twists on traditional snack foods in ways that make people smile,” she says. The family-run shop is well on its way to becoming a household name with its distinctive, hand-crafted popcorn creations, including Beer Cheddar, White Truffle, Sea Salt Caramel and Dark Chocolate Drizzle. In addition to a storefront in Hurst, TX, Ms. Wheat and her family are committed to growing the company’s online and corporate gifting business.
