National Association of Professional Women Inducts Shirley Weis, President at Weis Associates, LLC, into its 2015-2016 VIP Woman of the Year Circle
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) May 05, 2015 -- The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Shirley Weis as a 2015-2016 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in healthcare. NAPW is the nation's leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 700,000 members and over 200 operating Local Chapter.
“I'm pleased to recognize Shirley with this important honor,” says NAPW President Star Jones. “Her perseverance, work ethic and leadership qualities are an inspiration to all women.”
Throughout her storied career in healthcare, Ms. Weis successfully combined her practical, hands-on nursing skills with the strategic, innovative solutions and strategies she honed as an administrator to emerge as a trailblazer in the field. She has continually excelled in every leadership role she has held, including Chair of Administrative Services for Mayo Clinic, Chair of the Mayo Clinic Managed Care Department, Executive Director for Mayo Management Services, Inc., Chief Operating Officer for Blue Care Network Mid-Michigan and Emergency Services Manager for a Lansing, MI, healthcare system.
“I got started in healthcare as a Registered Nurse back in the days when women typically became nurses, teachers, secretaries or homemakers,” says Ms. Weis, B.S.N., M.B.A., Ph.D., Honorary Doctor of Science. “I always wanted to go into business, so I decided to go into hospital administration very early in my career.”
In 2013, Ms. Weis retired from her position as Mayo Clinic’s Chief Administrative Officer, where she was responsible for the management of 60,000 employees and the coordination of strategy and operations of the $9 billion healthcare system. Today, she is President of Weis Associates, LLC, a national leadership and management consulting firm, as well as Special Advisor to the President and Professor of Practice in the W.P. Carey School of Business and the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. “I am thoroughly enjoying my work as a leadership and management consultant. I love to help others identify their strengths and to grow in their careers,” she says.
Ms. Weis shares her knowledge about what it takes to succeed through nationwide speaking engagements, mentoring and coaching. The author of Playing to Win in Business, the first in her Just Respect™ for Women series, she is currently completing work on her second book. “In this series, I am sharing the lessons I learned from more than 40 years as a business leader. I was the first person in my family to go to college, so I am hoping to inspire others who may be starting their careers from humble beginnings,” says Ms. Weis. “It is a real labor of love for me.”
