Garden City, NY (PRWEB) January 06, 2015 -- NAPW honors Liz Mayes as a 2014-2015 Professional Woman of the Year. Ms. Mayes is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in healthcare advocacy. As the largest networking organization of professional women in the country, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and over 200 Local Chapters.
“I have ten years in the field of mental health, case management and healthcare advocacy,” says Ms. Mayes. “I will continue lobbying for patient advocacy rights and for training and standardization in building the healthcare advocacy profession.”
Ms. Mayes is Founder, CEO, Healthcare Advocate and Consultant at Connecting Your Health, LLC. Through her work with nonprofits, she was inspired to establish her healthcare consulting company as a way to help others navigate the complicated US healthcare system. Using her expansive knowledge of the field, including healthcare policy and quality improvement strategies, Ms. Mayes works with families through mediation in health-related matters and on behalf of patients with insurance disputes, medical record reviews and disability applications. She also assists with referrals to assisted living and nursing homes.
Throughout her career, Ms. Mayes has worked tirelessly to advocate on behalf of those who need it most. She has been instrumental in the passing of a bill in Wisconsin that gives cancer patients increased access to oral chemotherapy medications. “I have also been working with the National Patient Advocate Foundation and joined with a larger coalition in support of this bill,” she says. “It was a great day when the bill was signed in April.”
As she embarks on the latest chapter in her life, Ms. Mayes looks forward to taking her business to the next level. “At some point, I would like to write government grants, assist individuals through various programs leading to the improved health of the population, become certified as a Chronic Care Professional and help to get recognition for healthcare advocacy as a profession,” says Ms. Mayes.
