My most important responsibility is that I exist to care for my patients.

The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Dr. Ana Hernandez-Schneider as a 2017-2018 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in entrepreneurship. NAPW is the nation’s leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 850,000 members, a thriving eChapter and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
“I’m pleased to welcome Ana into this exceptional group of professional women,” said NAPW President Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience in her industry are valuable assets to her company and community.”
An immigrant from Mexico, Dr. Hernandez-Schneider was motivated to pursue a career in medicine so she could help provide quality healthcare for Hispanics and other minority groups. In her roles at Kaiser Permanente East Los Angeles Clinic, both as Physician Lead for Patient Centered Medical Home Project and as Family Medicine Physician, she does just that, diagnosing and treating patients, providing expert care and interacting with and mentoring staff.
“I also encourage the practice of mutual support, clear communication and situation monitoring in the work environment of our clinic,” Dr. Hernandez-Schneider added. Putting the patient first is a priority, she said. If unable to treat a patient, she does not hesitate to refer the patient to a peer who is specializes in that medical issue. “My most important responsibility is that I exist to care for my patients,” she said. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Hernandez-Schneider was Family Medicine Physician/CEO for 24 years at S-Corporation, her solo medical practice.
In addition to her work in the medical field, Dr. Hernandez-Schneider has taken on the role of CEO at Markath, LLC, a family-operated rental management company she founded. “I was guided and motivated by my desire to create and grow a business that will stay in our family for many generations into the future,” she said. “Our mission statement is ‘to provide high quality housing for the community.’”
Dr. Hernandez-Schneider brings a holistic approach to her work as a physician and as a CEO. In all cases, she uses her skills in leadership, communicating, collaborating and mentoring to form important relationships, provide quality services and offer effective solutions. Although she is challenged by a very full workload, institutional barriers and government restrictions, Dr. Hernandez-Schneider is rewarded daily by the positive feedback she receives from her many patients as well as family members. “Running a business and practicing medicine both help people and people express and show their appreciation, which in turn makes me feel happy and proud,” she added.
